How Do Contact Lenses Work?
Contact lenses work almost exactly like glasses. When worn, they bend and focus light on your retina, allowing for sharp, clear vision. The big difference is that no one else can tell you're wearing them!
Like glasses, contacts are appropriate for a wide range of prescriptions. They can help patients with refractive errors like nearsightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism, and presbyopia (age-related farsightedness) see life clearly. If you wear eyeglasses, there's an excellent chance that contacts are right for you as well.
Our Goodlettsville, TN, optometry office is also an optical boutique offering a vast selection of the latest eyeglasses and contact lenses designed to address all kinds of vision concerns. Patients seeking sharper vision can find help with our board-certified optometrist, no matter the need.

"Knowledgeable and so helpful." Your Clear Vision Is Our Mission
I've been going to Dr Choate for several years now. After some terrible fitting contacts from another eye dr caused a lot of issues with my eyes, I ended up at his office and was amazed at how well I could see once he fitted me properly for contacts. Literally said "oh my God " out loud the first time I put in contacts he gave me, I didn't know I could see that well haha I've been going ever since. Everyone that works there is so helpful and kind. The ladies that work with you to pick out glasses are the bomb. And Dr Choate is the best. He is funny and knowledgeable and determined to help as much as he possibly can. I look forward to my annual eye exam every year! I would recommend him to anyone.

Dr. Choate was recommended to me by an old friend who is a prominent optometry professor at one of the top optometry universities in the country. She regularly sees him at conferences and suggested I go to him as I’ve never had luck with contacts and he is known for being the best with that. Not only did Dr. Choate work tirelessly with my difficult eyes to get me a contact lens prescription that worked, but he also corrected my glasses prescription and is keeping tabs on my dry eye and early stage cataracts. Even with all his expertise, my favorite part about going there is Tammy who helps me not only choose the right frames and lenses along with navigating my insurance, but she has also been known to step in and help dissect the many nuances of my awful vision. She is such a blessing and I can’t say enough wonderful things about her and her advocacy for me. I make a long drive to go to Choate Optometry and it’s worth every mile.

Are Contacts Covered by Insurance?
Yes, contacts are usually partially or completely covered by insurance, depending on your vision plan. Keep in mind that contacts used for cosmetic purposes, like eye color-changing lenses, are not eligible for coverage. Choate Eye Associates accepts most types of insurance. Reach out to us at any time to confirm your coverage with our friendly, knowledgeable staff.
We also accept financing through CareCredit® to ensure the benefits of contacts are affordably available to all our patients, regardless of insurance status. CareCredit offers loans that carry little to no interest. You can pay in monthly installments that complement your unique budget.
Contact Lens FAQ
Can I wear my contacts in the bath or shower? What about while swimming?
As a rule, contact lenses and water should never mix. Exposure to water can affect the way the lens interacts with your eye and may even cause an eye infection if water finds its way between the lens and your eye. Avoid wearing contacts while bathing, swimming, in the sauna, or anywhere else they may be heavily exposed to water.
How do I keep my contacts clean and in good condition?
The only things you’ll need to maintain your contacts are a contact lens case and a special disinfecting solution made for contacts. Dr. Choate can recommend the right cleaning solution for your lenses. You'll use the disinfecting solution rather than soap to clean your contacts. Always store them within the special case to keep them from getting dirty or lost.
My kid is interested in wearing contacts instead of glasses. Is this a good option?
Contacts can be a great choice for responsible young patients who don't want to wear eyeglasses. Though we don't recommend contacts for children under 10, tweens and teens are often excellent candidates. Dr. Choate will be happy to talk to you and your child about this option together.
